What 68% of young adults think

68% of individuals between the ages of 25 and 34 in Sangamon County believe, in general, that things are going well in our county. Overall, 59.5% of all respondents to a new quality of life survey reported that things are generally on the right track. Those are good numbers -- better than in other communities, according to Dr. Ashley Kirzinger, director of the Survey Research Office at the University of Illinois Springfield. She released her report this morning at a Citizens Club meeting, to a packed house at the Hoogland Center. Also sponsoring the survey were the United Way, the Community Foundation of the Land of Lincoln and UIS. The report is so rich in data that you'll be hearing about its nine topics from many sources. There was a story in today's paper about it. As I tweeted earlier, after seeing the response to Ashley's presentation, I'm pretty sure a new star emerged today in Sangamon County: Ashley Kirzinger. She is really committed to the quality of life survey project. Here is a link to the full report, which is called the Sangamon County Citizen Survey.

Illinois House members here

Last week, five members of the Illinois House used UIS as their venue to talk about college affordability. A couple of our student leaders were there and made some good connections, and the event got a fair amount of media coverage. Here are the five reps who were there. Speaking is Rep. Adam Brown (R-Decatur), who just received his Masters in Public Administration from UIS. Others from left are Reps. Rich Brauer, Bill Mitchell, C.D. Davidsmeyer and Wayne Rosenthal.
